This class is a great fit for anyone with basic darkroom knowledge who is interested in further deepening their darkroom education. We recommend that you are able to confidently print at a basic level before joining this class. (You can take our Intro to B&W printing class, though we would also recommend practicing printing on your own for a few weeks after the lesson, in order for this class to be beneficial to you).

We will meet every week with a new topic (toning and archival processes, split filter printing and flashing, pushing/pulling film, large format photography, and some alternative process photography).

Teacher:
Ian Lewandowski is a multi talented artist, focusing his work in large format photography. His range of skills in the darkroom lend to his portraiture work photographing his community. He is from Northwest Indiana and completed his MFA at the State University of New York at Purchase (SUNY) in 2019. His first solo exhibition, Community Board, was exhibited at The Java Project in Brooklyn in 2019. His first monograph, The Ice Palace Is Gone, was published by Magic Hour Press in 2021. Ian lives in south Brooklyn with his husband Anthony and dog Seneca. View is works at www.ianlewandowski.com.

Prerequisites:
A basic understanding of b&w darkroom printing. (Great for students who have taken an Intro to B&W Darkroom course (we also recommend having printed in our darkroom a few times if this is the case).

What to bring:
Some examples of your past work, and examples of what you would like to achieve in this course.
In class, we will discuss the materials you will need to bring week to week.
