Advanced Darkroom Practices

This 8 week ongoing class is our newest course coming in January. Advanced Darkroom Practices is perfect for any black & white darkroom printer who is currently printing at a basic level. Join us to further your darkroom knowledge. Perfect for any students who previously took our Intro to Darkroom 101 course! Read the class description for more information.

These quick lessons are perfect for students interested in getting started. Our basics workshops are beginner level and will be just enough to get you started working in a darkroom.

Basics Film Camera and Film Processing Group Workshop

3 Hours
Learn how to use your film camera, including loading film and basic settings such as aperture and shutter speed. Bring any film camera and roll of black and white film of your choosing. After shooting a roll of film together, learn to develop one roll of black and white film into negatives from start to finish.
Chemistry included.

This class is for developing film only. We do not go inside of a darkroom with the red lights in this class.

Basics Darkroom Printing Group Workshop

2 Hours
Learn how to print in a darkroom. In this class you will make black and white darkroom prints in a traditional black & white darkroom. You’ll create one contact sheet and one black and white image from a negative, taking home anything you print during the class.
Paper and chemistry included.

This class is for darkroom printing only. We do not develop film in this class.

Basics Color Printing Group Workshop

3 Hours
Learn to enlarge and print from a negative and take home prints.  Paper and chemistry included.
Student(s) must have prior experience in black and white darkroom printing.

Shooting and Camera Basics Private Lesson

1 Hour
Learn how to use your film camera. Load your camera with film, learn basic settings such as aperture, ISO, and shutter speed and how to use your camera. Bring any film camera and any kind of film of your choosing.

Film Processing Private Lesson

1.5 Hours
Learn to develop one roll of black and white film from start to finish. Take the film out of your camera after shooting and bring it to this lesson. We will teach you how to develop the film so you can see the negatives and take them home.
Chemistry included.

Darkroom Printing Private Lesson

2 Hours
Learn to print in a traditional black and white darkroom, with the chemicals and the red lighs. You will make one contact sheet and one black and white image from a negative, and take home anything you make in the class.
Paper and chemistry included.

 Color Printing Private Lesson

3 Hours
Learn to enlarge and print from a negative and take home prints.  Paper and chemistry included.
Student(s) must have prior experience in black and white darkroom printing.

Refresher Course Private Lesson

3 Hours
If you have previous training in black and white film processing and darkroom printing, but it’s been awhile, this lesson will loosely cover both aspects. This should only be taken as a refresher course, and should be just enough to help you get back into the darkroom groove. This lesson will not work for someone with no prior experience.

Private Advanced Lesson

Price per hour (minimum purchase 2 hours)
Decide what you would like to learn, such as dodging and burning, print spotting, print toning, mounting, split contrast filtering, etc. You can start with two hours and add time from there if you need additional assistance, or you have a specific project you are working on.

Cyanotype Private Lesson

3 Hours
Learn how to make prints using the cyanotype process, which produces rich blue prints with brilliant highlights, covering all aspects from chemistry to print finishing.

Photogram Private Lesson

1 Hour
Learn how to make black and white photograms without a camera, using physical items placed on top of photographic paper to create negative shadow images to take home. A great class for younger students ages 7-13, or anyone interested in the art of making black and white photograms.
